Electric Elephant in Croatia
Getting asked to do something like this is a no brainer:
“Would you like to come over to Croatia for a few days and curate a section of our festival?”
So here I am with The Local, contributing to the inaugural Electric Elephant event here at Petrcane in Croatia. Set in a vintage-looking nightclub on a hotel complex at the end of a wee peninsula, we’re here with about 700 others, having brought with us Liz Green, Birdengine, and Denis Jones. These guys complimenting the other live offerings brought by Lee Gorton (redbricks) and The Fence dudes (Kenny, Johnny) and Adem.
This is all something of an aside for most people, who are here for the fine array of djs and boat parties organised by Lowlife, Unabombers, and hundreds more which make me feel rather old. Especially when I sneak off about midnight to bed.
What a place to organise/come to a festival! All punters are either in hotels, apartments, or camping, and the cost of it all for a wekk is very much comparable to what you might pay for a three day stand in the rain back home!
My highlights so far have been Superimposers and Magic Arm (I had to go eat when James Yuill just started) and I am looking forward to playing some percussion with Adem and the Fence kids later.
More soon!

Nintendo Wee, Rochdale FC, and the Scout Moor Windfarm.
It's been a while since I posted, and many things have made me angry as all hell. Most of these I couldn't mention here due to my own professional integrity. Yes, I did say that. Many things have been making me very happy too however. Among them Rochdale FC, and Archie (my mrs horse - picture soon).
Wow, Rochdale FC. In the play offs. The most exciting season ever. Most points gained, young squad etc. Made me proud to have bought the 10-match "country season ticket". This meant I got to a bunch of decent home games but I also made it to away wins at MK Dons and Wycombe. My home town team, longest serving in the basement league, with a real chance of promotion. Brings a tear to the eye.
Now then, Nintendo Wii doing their fitness game. Weighing scales and all that. I can just imagine all the fat fucks resting their feet on the thing as they eat their crispy pancakes and chips before a can of irn bru with a fag. Surely the fastest burned-out fad since the exercise bike in the spare room right?
Lastly, I was up at home for the bank holiday, and Dale's final game of the season. I went for a roam around the new windfarm above Norden. An impressive and dramatic change to the landscape, and surely there are more folks up there these days having a look at them. Now whether they make financial sense remains to be seen.
